I have previously posted about the vast benefits of Green Tea, but now I want to focus in particular the benefits drinking detox tea (such as green tea, dandelion tea etc) can have on your skin.
Despite having a rigorous cleansing routine for your skin sometimes it helps to cleanse from the inside, a skin cleansing detox. There are an increasing number of clinical studies suggesting a hot botanical blend is good for your skin in a myriad of ways — from fighting free radicals to preventing acne.
Let’s start with the obvious benefit of drinking tea: water. We’ve all heard about importance of hydration and how water moisturizes our skin from the inside out. However drinking green tea is even better than drinking water alone, since tea replaces fluids and contains antioxidants.
The green tea leaf has the highest levels of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols. These polyphenols are some of the best weapons again free radicals, which form in our skin from a variety of sources, including exposure to environmental toxins and pollution, stress in our daily lives, not enough exercise, overexposure to UV rays and the natural aging process.
Drinking green tea seems to help reduce or even prevent free radical damage, slow down signs of aging and increase the body’s overall antioxidant activity.
And it is for this reason many beauty brands use green tea as an active ingredient in their skincare products.

What about other teas?
Chamomile tea has natural anti-inflammatory properties, and is wonderful for red, dry skin and eczema.
Dandelion tea is wonderful for cleansing and is used in many herbal blends as a diuretic and as a rich source of potassium. Dandelion is wonderful for the liver and kidneys. It helps regulate the appetite and promotes good digestion, as it stimulates the production of bile. It is naturally mineral-rich and full of Vitamin C.
Rosehip tea — made from dried rosehips — is not only yummy and refreshing, but it’s also one of the best sources for vitamin C, an antioxidant that is vital for a healthy immune system. Rosehips also have antibacterial, anti-viral and anti-aging properties. Hibiscus teas also protect against cell-damaging free radicals, and as a bonus you can blend them with green or white tea, other great sources of antioxidants.
White tea is high in antioxidants and therefore has anti-ageing properties. It can even help protect your skin from the harmful effects of UV rays. It's a great option if you find green tea too bitter.
Rooibos tea is another blend known for its anti-ageing properties, but it's both caffeine-free and high in mineral content, so it can actually help ease nerves and aid a good night's sleep. Sleep is, of course, vital when you're detoxing as your body does the majority of repair work while you rest.
